Each messenger receives a small amount of money when it arrives on a platform. The platform sets the prices for resources according to the load and charges the messengers for CPU, memory and network usage. When an messenger's credit is exhausted, it's threads are killed and all memory is released. A longer description can be found in http://cuiwww.unige.ch/tios/msgr/m0/doc/overview.html but you should definitly check other papers if you're interested in the approach. There are some people in our group with hands-on experience. Please send a mail to m0@cui.unige.ch if you have questions.
