Hi, I'd like to point you at some projects we're doing at the University of Utah in the Flux group. We have two VMs based on Kaffe that provide control over such resources and memory and CPU time. One VM, called Alta, is Patrick Tullmann's (tullmann@cs.utah.edu) thesis project. It uses the nested process model from the Fluke Operating System developed at Utah and implements it in Java. The other, called KaffeOS, uses a different process model closer to monolithic kernels, and also addresses such issues as accounting for GC pressure from different processes. I'm building KaffeOS as my thesis project. There's no software out yet, but here's a bunch of URLs with pointers to papers that people might be interested in: ESIGOPS 98 paper on Alta: Abstract, with link to PostScript version ftp://mancos.cs.utah.edu/papers/npmjava-esigops98web-abs.html HotOS 7 paper on how KaffeOS provides a "red line", with link to PostScript ftp://mancos.cs.utah.edu/papers/redline-hotos7-abs.html - Godmar ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe (or other requests) mailto:majordomo@media.mit.edu List archives, FAQ, member list, etc. http://gee.cs.oswego.edu/dl/javares/
